Picture of the day: the Montane Spine race

The notorious 268-mile ultra race is well underway, although the end surely can’t come quickly enough for the heroic/insane athletes (delete as appropriate) taking part. One of the world’s toughest endurance races, the trial comprises a seven-day, non-stop route along the Pennine Way National Trail, taking in 13,135m cumulative metres of ascent.
